About Kamakhya
Temple
Kamakhya Temple, perched atop Nilachal Hill in Guwahati, Assam, is one of the oldest and most revered Shakti Peethas in India. Dedicated to Goddess Kamakhya — the goddess of desire — this ancient temple is the epicentre of tantric worship and draws millions of devotees every year.
The temple's unique beehive-shaped dome, its mysterious rituals, and the annual Ambubachi Mela make it one of the most fascinating pilgrimage destinations in the country. The Nilachal Hill complex also houses nine other temples, each dedicated to the ten Mahavidyas of Hindu tradition.
FAQs
The temple is open year-round, but October to March offers the most pleasant weather. The Ambubachi Mela (June) is the most significant festival. Avoid monsoon months (July-September) if you prefer dry weather.
Yes, modest clothing is expected. Women should wear sarees or salwar kameez, and men should wear dhoti-kurta or formal attire. Leather items (belts, wallets) are not allowed inside the main sanctum.
Guwahati is well-connected by air (Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport), rail (Guwahati Railway Station), and road. The temple is about 8 km from the city centre and 30 km from the airport.
Regular darshan can take 3-5 hours due to long queues. With our priority access arrangements, you can complete darshan in 1-2 hours with a more peaceful experience.
The temple is on a hilltop and involves climbing steps. We arrange vehicle access to the nearest point and provide assistance for elderly and differently-abled visitors. Palki (palanquin) services are also available.
Our packages include all puja samagri (materials), pandit fees, and prasad. Special pujas like Durga Puja, Kali Puja, or customised tantric rituals can be arranged on request.
