About This Journey

Tilinga Mandir, famous as the Bell Temple, is a unique Shiva shrine located at Bordubi in Tinsukia district, about 500 km east of Guwahati and 12 km from Tinsukia town. The temple's history began in 1965 when tea garden workers discovered a self-manifested Shivalinga near a sacred banyan tree. Word spread as devotees whose wishes came true returned to tie brass bells (Tilinga) to the banyan tree branches as a token of gratitude. Today, hundreds of thousands of brass, bronze, and copper bells of every size hanging from tree trunks and iron bars create an astonishing sight and sound.
