Standing in dignified grace along the eastern banks of the expansive royal Borpukhuri lake in Sivasagar, Devi Doul is an indispensable shrine within the historic Ahom capital's sacred triad. Built in 1734 CE under the devout commission of Queen Ambika Devi, the consort of King Siva Singha, the temple was designed as the royal family's private sanctum for dedicated Shakti worship. Although constructed slightly more modest in scale than the adjacent Siva Doul, Devi Doul is renowned for the artistic refinement of its brickwork, featuring exquisite terracotta sculptures depicting Goddess Durga battling demonic forces across its outer niches. The inner sanctum houses consecrated idols of the Mother Goddess, receiving daily offerings conducted according to time-honored Shakta traditions. The lush waterfront promenade overlooking the historic 130-acre reservoir provides pilgrims with a peaceful setting for introspection and prayer.
