About This Temple
Garakhiya Dol is a historic Shiva temple located near Nazira town in Sivasagar district, about 15 km from Sivasagar town center. Constructed during the reign of Ahom King Pratap Singha (1611-1649 AD), the temple is rooted in a charming local tradition. Legend says cowherd boys (Garakhiya) originally performed spontaneous Shiva worship using wild flowers at a mound here, leading the Ahom king to construct a formal brick temple at the spot. Surrounded by peaceful village greenery and trees, Garakhiya Dol offers a quiet glimpse into early Ahom temple building history.
