About This Journey

Negheriting Shiva Doul is a magnificent historical temple located on a hillock at Dergaon in Golaghat district, about 270 km east of Guwahati. Originally founded between the 8th and 9th centuries by Kachari rulers, the temple was grandly rebuilt in stone and brick by Ahom King Rajeswar Singha in 1765 AD. The main central tower dedicated to Lord Shiva is surrounded by four smaller satellite temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu, Lord Ganesha, Lord Surya, and Goddess Durga. The temple premises are famous for a large friendly population of rhesus macaque monkeys living in the surrounding tea garden trees.
