About This Temple
Kedar Temple is an ancient Shiva shrine situated on Madanachala Hill in Hajo, close to Hayagriva Madhava Temple. Built in 1753 AD by Ahom King Rajeswar Singha, the temple is noted for housing a rare Svayambhu (self-manifested) Shivalinga shaped like a turtle shell (Kurma avatar). Stone inscriptions inside the temple record its royal Ahom patronage. Devotees climb a scenic flight of stone steps up Madanachala Hill to offer prayers and perform water abhishekam. The hill position offers quiet surrounding green views across Hajo valley.
