About This Temple
Siva Doul is the grandest architectural monument of the Ahom Kingdom, located on the banks of the historic Sivasagar Tank (Bor Pukhuri) in Sivasagar town. Built in 1734 AD by Queen Ambika, wife of Ahom King Shiva Singha, the temple tower rises to a height of 104 feet (32 meters), making it the tallest Shiva temple tower in India. The top of the central spire is crowned with an 8-foot tall golden dome (Kalasha). Beautiful stone carved relief figures of Hindu deities adorn the outer walls. The temple is flanked by Vishnu Doul and Devi Doul, forming a magnificent royal temple complex.

Siva Doul is located on the bank of the Sivasagar Lake in the heart of Sivasagar town, Assam.
It was built in 1734 AD by Queen Ambika (Bor Raja Ambika), the principal queen of Ahom King Shiva Singha.
The central spire (Shikhara) of Siva Doul stands at 104 feet (32 meters) high, making it the tallest Shiva temple spire in India.
The apex of the tower is topped with a pure gold Kalasha (pinnacle dome) measuring 8 feet in height.
Sivasagar Tank (Bor Pukhuri) is a huge 257-acre man made lake dug by Queen Ambika in 1734 AD, on whose bank the douls stand.
The temple is open daily from 6:00 AM to 7:30 PM.
Maha Shivaratri is celebrated with a massive mela around the lake that attracts pilgrims from all over Assam and India.
Sivasagar is about 75 km from Dibrugarh Airport (Mohanbari), taking around 2 hours by car.
It is about 60 km from Jorhat Airport (Rowriah), taking about 1.5 hours by road.
Visitors can visit Vishnu Doul, Devi Doul, Rang Ghar amphitheater, Kareng Ghar palace, and Talatal Ghar.
