About This Temple
Navagraha Temple is a well-known Shiva temple on Chitrachal Hill in Guwahati, Assam. The temple is dedicated to the nine planets, which are worshipped in the form of nine Shivalingas. The present temple was built during the Ahom period in the 18th century. Each Shivalinga represents one of the nine planets, while the central one represents the Sun. Devotees visit the temple to offer prayers and perform Navagraha Puja, Graha Shanti and other rituals for peace and well-being. The temple is also connected with Guwahati's old name, Pragjyotishpur, which is linked with the city's traditional connection with astronomy. The hilltop location also gives visitors a nice view of Guwahati.
