About This Journey
Omkareshwar stands on Mandhata island in the Narmada, in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh. Seen from above, the island is said to form the shape of Om. It is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. Many pilgrims also visit Mamleshwar on the south bank, since local tradition treats the two shrines as one Jyotirlinga. In 2023 a 108-foot statue of Adi Shankaracharya was unveiled on the island's hilltop. This Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga darshan package starts at Indore airport, about 80 km and two and a half hours away. You cross to the island by footbridge or boat. Day 1 covers Omkareshwar and Mamleshwar darshan and the evening aarti on the ghats. Day 2 is the parikrama around the island, about 7 km on foot. Monday queues are long.
