About This Temple

Omkareshwar stands on Mandhata island in the Narmada, in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh. Seen from above, the island is said to form the shape of Om. It is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. Many pilgrims also visit Mamleshwar on the south bank, since local tradition treats the two shrines as one Jyotirlinga. In 2023 a 108-foot statue of Adi Shankaracharya was unveiled on the island's hilltop.
