About This Journey
Shri Mahakaleshwar stands beside the Rudra Sagar lake in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, close to the Shipra river. It is the only south-facing Jyotirlinga. In Shaiva tradition the south belongs to death, and Mahakal is worshipped as its master. The linga sits in a sanctum below ground. The Omkareshwar and Nagchandreshwar shrines stand on the floors above. The Nagchandreshwar shrine opens only on Nag Panchami. This Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga darshan package gives you two days and one night from Indore, 55 km away. Day 1 covers the Mahakal Lok corridor and evening darshan. Day 2 starts with the pre-dawn Bhasma Aarti. Places are limited and booked through the temple's official website. Book as soon as your dates are fixed. The dress code for Bhasma Aarti is strict.
