About This Journey
Katyayani Peeth stands in the Radhabagh area of Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh, a short walk from the Yamuna. Tradition holds that ringlets of Sati's hair fell here, and the Katyayani Shakti Peeth is counted among the 51. The goddess is worshipped as Uma (Katyayani), with Bhutesh as her Bhairava. The present temple was built in 1923. In the Bhagavata Purana, the gopis of Vraj worship Katyayani for a month to win Krishna as their husband. Young women still pray here in Margashirsha with the same hope. This two-day journey starts in Delhi, about 170 km and three and a half hours away by the Yamuna Expressway. Day 1 is Katyayani darshan and the evening at Banke Bihari. Day 2 covers the Krishna Janmabhoomi in Mathura, 15 km away, before the drive back.
