Dedicated to Goddess Uma (Katyayani)
- Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh
About This Temple
Katyayani Peeth stands in the Radhabagh area of Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh, a short walk from the Yamuna. Tradition holds that ringlets of Sati's hair fell here, and the Katyayani Shakti Peeth is counted among the 51. The goddess is worshipped as Uma (Katyayani), with Bhutesh as her Bhairava. The present temple was built in 1923. In the Bhagavata Purana, the gopis of Vraj worship Katyayani for a month to win Krishna as their husband. Young women still pray here in Margashirsha with the same hope.
