About This Journey
The Kankalitala Shakti Peeth stands on the Kopai river, about 9 km from Bolpur in Birbhum district, West Bengal. Tradition holds that Sati's waist, her kankal or bones, fell here. There is no carved image. A sacred pond beside the temple is believed to hold the relic under its water. Devotees make offerings at the pond's edge. The goddess is Devagarbha, with Ruru as her Bhairava. This two-day journey starts at Kolkata airport, about 165 km and four hours away, with the night in Bolpur (Shantiniketan). Day 1 is the drive and an afternoon at Visva-Bharati, the university founded by Rabindranath Tagore. Santiniketan is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Day 2 is darshan at Kankalitala before the drive back. Bolpur station has direct trains from Howrah.
Day-by-day sacred itinerary will be customized to your darshan schedule and arrival timings.
