The Shondesh Shakti Peeth is identified with the Narmada Udgam temple at the Narmada Kund in Amarkantak, Madhya Pradesh, where the Narmada rises. Tradition holds that Sati's right buttock fell here. The goddess is Narmada, with Bhadrasen as her Bhairava. The kund is ringed by white temples. Pilgrims begin the Narmada Parikrama here, walking the length of the river and back. The walk takes many months.
