About This Temple

The Ramgiri Shakti Peeth, where tradition says Sati's right breast fell, is placed by some at Chitrakoot. Many pilgrims identify it with Maihar in Madhya Pradesh. At Maihar the goddess Sharda sits on Trikuta hill, reached by about 1,000 steps or a ropeway. Local legend holds that the warrior Alha, of the Alha-Udal ballads, still offers the first worship each morning. The Tantra lists name the goddess Shivani, with Chanda as her Bhairava.
