About This Temple
Baba Baidyanath Dham stands in Deoghar, Jharkhand, and most traditions count it among the twelve Jyotirlingas. The name means the lord of physicians. Tradition holds that Ravana carried the linga from Kailash and set it down here. He could not lift it again. The complex holds 22 temples, and the goddess Jayadurga's shrine faces Shiva's. Parli Vaijnath in Maharashtra also claims this Jyotirlinga.
