About This Temple
Somnath Temple stands on the shore of the Arabian Sea at Prabhas Patan, near Veraval in Gujarat. Hindu tradition counts it first among the twelve Jyotirlingas of Shiva. It was destroyed and rebuilt several times over the centuries. The present Chalukya-style temple was completed in 1951. Its spire faces open sea, and the Baan Stambh in the courtyard marks an unbroken sea route to the South Pole.
