About This Journey
Ramanathaswamy Temple stands on Pamban island at Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu. It is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and one of the Char Dham. Tradition holds that Ram installed the linga here, shaped from sand by Sita, before crossing to Lanka. The outer corridor is often cited as the longest of any Hindu temple. Inside are 22 theerthams, wells in which pilgrims bathe before darshan. This Rameswaram Jyotirlinga tour package starts at Madurai airport, about 175 km and four hours away across the Pamban road bridge. Day 1 is the drive and evening darshan. Day 2 starts with the theertham bath and darshan, then Dhanushkodi, about 20 km away at the island's tip. Wet clothes are not allowed in the sanctum. Carry a change.
