About This Journey
The Magadh pitha is identified with Patan Devi in Patna, Bihar, the city that was ancient Pataliputra. Tradition holds that Sati's right thigh fell here. There are two shrines, Badi Patan Devi and Chhoti Patan Devi, a short drive apart in the old city. The goddess is Sarvanandkari, with Vyomkesh as her Bhairava. Tradition regards Patan Devi as the guardian goddess of Patna. The Patan Devi Shakti Peeth is busiest during Navratri. This two-day journey starts at Patna airport, about 10 km away. Day 1 covers both Patan Devi shrines and Takht Sri Patna Sahib, birthplace of Guru Gobind Singh, in the same part of the city. Day 2 is the Bihar Museum and the Ganga riverfront before your flight. Old Patna's lanes are narrow.
