About This Journey
Shri Devi Kupa Bhadrakali Temple stands in Thanesar, Kurukshetra, Haryana. Tradition holds that Sati's right ankle fell into the well here. The Kurukshetra Shakti Peeth is counted among the 51, with the goddess as Savitri, worshipped as Bhadrakali, and Sthanu as her Bhairava. Tradition says the Pandavas prayed here before the Mahabharata war and offered horses after victory. Devotees still offer small clay or metal horses when a wish is fulfilled. This two-day journey starts at Chandigarh airport, about 90 km away. Day 1 is darshan and the evening at Brahma Sarovar. Day 2 covers Jyotisar, where tradition says Krishna spoke the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna, and the Sthaneshwar Mahadev temple. Kurukshetra Junction is about 3 km away. The temple itself is small.
