About This Journey
Kiriteshwari Temple stands at Kiritkona, a village near Lalbagh in Murshidabad district, West Bengal, close to the Bhagirathi river. Tradition counts the Kiriteshwari Shakti Peeth among the 51 as the place where Sati's kirit, or crown, fell. The goddess is worshipped as Vimala, with Samvarta as her Bhairava. Locals also call her Mukuteshwari. The village is quiet. Most visitors come for the day from Berhampore or Lalbagh. This two-day journey starts at Kolkata airport, about 220 km and five to six hours away by road. Day 1 is the drive north and an evening darshan. Day 2 adds Murshidabad's history: the Hazarduari Palace, completed in 1837 for the Nawabs, and the Katra Masjid. Then you drive back to Kolkata. Murshidabad railway station, near Lalbagh, is a few kilometres away.
Day-by-day sacred itinerary will be customized to your darshan schedule and arrival timings.
