About This Journey
Kedarnath Temple stands at about 3,583 m at the head of the Mandakini valley in Rudraprayag district, Uttarakhand. It is the highest of the twelve Jyotirlingas and one of the Char Dham of Uttarakhand. The stone temple survived the 2013 flood largely intact. A boulder lodged behind it, now called Bhim Shila, is worshipped. The linga here is a rough, humped rock. This Kedarnath yatra package runs four days and three nights from Dehradun airport. You drive about 240 km to Sonprayag, then take a shared jeep to Gaurikund. From there the climb is about 16 km. Most people take six to eight hours on foot. Ponies, palkis and helicopters from the Guptkashi area shorten it. The temple opens only from about May to November. Registration is mandatory.
