About This Journey
The Kalmadhav Shakti Peeth, where tradition says Sati's left buttock fell, is placed at Amarkantak in Anuppur district, Madhya Pradesh. The goddess is Kali, with Asitang as her Bhairava. The site is linked to Sonmuda, a cliff-edge spring where the Son river begins its drop into the valley. Amarkantak sits at about 1,050 m on the Maikal hills, where the Narmada also rises. Temples of the Kalachuri period near the Narmada Kund date from the 11th century. This three-day journey starts at Jabalpur airport, about 230 km and five to six hours away. Day 1 is the drive. Day 2 covers Sonmuda, the Narmada Kund, which is another Shakti Peeth, and the Kapildhara waterfall. Day 3 is the drive back. Pendra Road, about 40 km away, is the nearest railway station.
Day-by-day sacred itinerary will be customized to your darshan schedule and arrival timings.
