About This Journey
The Bhairav Parvat Shakti Peeth, where tradition says Sati's upper lip fell, is identified by most pilgrims with Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh. The goddess is Avanti, with Lambkarna as her Bhairava. Two Ujjain shrines carry the claim. Harsiddhi Temple stands near Mahakaleshwar. Gadkalika Temple is linked to the poet Kalidasa. Some traditions place the pitha at Girnar in Gujarat instead. At Harsiddhi, two tall lamp towers are lit with oil lamps during Navratri. This two-day journey starts at Indore airport, 55 km away. Day 1 covers Harsiddhi, then Mahakaleshwar darshan. Day 2 takes you to Gadkalika and Kal Bhairav on the north side of the city. The Shipra ghats are a short walk from Harsiddhi. Navratri draws the largest crowds.
