About This Journey
Bargabhima Temple stands in Tamluk, Purba Medinipur district, West Bengal. Tamluk was once Tamralipta, a major port of ancient India with sea routes to Sri Lanka and Southeast Asia. Tradition holds that Sati's left ankle fell here. The Bargabhima Shakti Peeth appears in the Tantra lists as Vibhash. The goddess is Kapalini, also called Bhimarupa, with Sarvanand as her Bhairava. This two-day journey starts at Kolkata airport, with the night in Kolkata. Day 1 is Kalighat, the city's own Shakti Peeth. Day 2 is the drive of about 90 km to Tamluk for darshan and the Tamralipta Museum. You are back in Kolkata by evening. Tamluk railway station is about 1 km from the temple. Local trains run from Howrah.
