About This Journey
Attahas Temple stands near Labpur in Birbhum district, West Bengal. Tradition holds that Sati's lower lip fell here, and the Attahas Shakti Peeth is counted among the 51. The goddess is Phullara, with Vishwesh as her Bhairava. The name means loud laughter. The temple sits in open farmland. Birbhum holds five of the 51 within about 80 km of each other. This two-day journey starts at Kolkata airport, about 190 km and five hours away. You spend the night in Bolpur (Shantiniketan), about 30 km from the temple. Day 1 is the drive and an evening in Shantiniketan. Day 2 is darshan at Attahas. On the way back you can add Kankalitala, another of the 51, near Bolpur. Bolpur has direct trains from Howrah if you prefer rail.
