About This Temple
Thanumalayan Temple at Suchindram, in Kanyakumari district, Tamil Nadu, is identified with the Shuchi pitha, where tradition says Sati's upper teeth fell. The goddess is Narayani, with Samhar as her Bhairava. The temple's main linga is worshipped as Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma together. Hence the name Thanu-Mal-Ayan. Its halls hold musical stone pillars and an 18-foot Hanuman carved from a single stone. The Suchindram Shakti Peeth is about 12 km from Kanyakumari.
