The Virat Shakti Peeth, where tradition says the toes of Sati's left foot fell, is commonly placed at Viratnagar (Bairat) in Jaipur district, Rajasthan. Some lists place it near Bharatpur instead. The goddess is Ambika, with Amrit as her Bhairava. Viratnagar is named after King Virata of the Mahabharata, at whose court the Pandavas spent their year in disguise. Bijak ki Pahari, nearby, holds the ruins of a Mauryan-era Buddhist monastery.
