Mithila Shakti Peeth, Nepal: Location and How to Reach
Dedicated to Goddess Uma (Mahadevi)
- Janakpur (one identification), Nepal
About This Temple
The Mithila Shakti Peeth, where tradition says Sati's left shoulder fell, has no single agreed site. Many place it near Janakpur in Nepal, the city tradition names as the birthplace of Sita. Others point to Uchchaith in Madhubani district of Bihar, or to sites near Saharsa. The goddess is Uma, also called Mahadevi, with Mahodar as her Bhairava. Janakpur's main landmark is the Janaki Mandir, a white temple completed in 1910. Indian citizens do not need a visa for Nepal. The easiest route is the train from Jaynagar in Bihar to Janakpur, which resumed passenger service in 2022. Darbhanga airport in Bihar is about 70 km from Jaynagar. Carry a passport or voter ID card for the crossing. A two-day trip is possible from Darbhanga.
Day-by-day sacred itinerary will be customized to your darshan schedule and arrival timings.
