About This Temple

Guhyeshwari Temple stands on the Bagmati river in Kathmandu, a short walk east of Pashupatinath. Most pilgrims visit it as the Nepal Shakti Peeth. The texts are more complicated. The Tantra lists place the fall of Sati's knees in Nepal, with the goddess as Mahamaya and Kapali as her Bhairava. The Nepal Mahatmya links Guhyeshwari to a different part of her body. There is no idol. Worship is offered at a covered kalash over a spring. Indian citizens need no visa for Nepal. Kathmandu airport is about 3 km from the Guhyeshwari Shakti Peeth. Non-Hindus may not enter the inner courtyard. A two-day trip covers Guhyeshwari and Pashupatinath on Day 1, with the evening aarti on the Bagmati. Day 2 covers Boudhanath stupa and the old city of Bhaktapur.

Day-by-day sacred itinerary will be customized to your darshan schedule and arrival timings.
