About This Temple
Jeshoreshwari Kali Temple stands at Ishwaripur in Shyamnagar, Satkhira district, south-western Bangladesh, near the edge of the Sundarbans. Tradition holds that the palms of Sati's hands and soles of her feet fell here. The Tantra lists call it the Yashor pitha. The goddess is Jeshoreshwari, with Chanda as her Bhairava. The Jeshoreshwari Shakti Peeth is said to have been restored in the 16th century by Raja Pratapaditya of Jessore. Only the goddess's face is visible. The rest of the image is covered with cloth. Indian pilgrims need a Bangladesh visa. From Kolkata, the Ghojadanga-Bhomra land border leads into Satkhira district. Ishwaripur is about 75 km beyond it by road. Allow three days in all. Check visa rules before you plan.
